Advancing Discovery and Care in Otolaryngology

The Stanford Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery is a nationally recognized leader in patient care, research, and education in diseases and disorders related to the ear, nose, throat (ENT), head, and neck.

Shaping the Future of Head and Neck Surgery Through Innovation and Research

In July 2018, the Tahbazof Family Foundation made two generous pledges totaling $2,000,000 to support key initiatives at Stanford University.

  • The Foundation pledged $1,000,000 to the Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior University to help fund the design, construction, start-up, and maintenance of the new Biomedical Innovation Building on the Stanford campus.
  • An additional $1,000,000 was pledged to be used under the direction of the Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery in the Stanford School of Medicine. This gift was designated to provide a startup package for a new faculty member conducting research as part of the Stanford Initiative to Cure Hearing Loss.

How We Helped

In September 2022, the Tahbazof Family Foundation pledged and fulfilled a $100,000 gift to Stanford University in support of the Tahbazof Clinician Scientist Fund.

This contribution was designated for the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery to support a clinician-scientist trainee, furthering the Foundation’s commitment to advancing medical research and clinical excellence in hearing and related fields.

Both pledges have since been fulfilled, underscoring the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to advancing biomedical research and innovative treatments in hearing health.

The Impact of ONHS

The department is home to renowned clinicians and scientists who specialize in areas such as:

  • Hearing and balance disorders
  • Head and neck cancer
  • Facial plastic and reconstructive surgery
  • Pediatric otolaryngology
  • Voice, airway, and swallowing disorders
  • Rhinology and sinus surgery

In addition to delivering world-class clinical care, the department is deeply committed to advancing scientific discovery. Faculty members conduct pioneering research in fields like auditory neuroscience, cancer biology, regenerative medicine, and the development of innovative surgical techniques.

The Stanford Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery is a nationally recognized leader in patient care, research, and education in diseases and disorders related to the ear, nose, throat (ENT), head, and neck. Part of the Stanford University School of Medicine, the department provides comprehensive services that range from routine ENT care to the most complex surgical interventions and cutting-edge therapies.

One of its flagship research efforts is the Stanford Initiative to Cure Hearing Loss, which brings together multidisciplinary teams to find biological cures for hearing impairment—an area where support from donors like the Tahbazof Family Foundation plays a crucial role.

Through a strong focus on education and mentorship, the department also trains the next generation of physician-scientists, residents, and fellows, ensuring continued excellence in the field for years to come.
